[Taipei] 世界人權日：圖博／西藏牧民哪裡去了？Human Rights Day: Where are the Tibetan nomads?
December 10, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Human Rights Day: Where are the Tibetan nomads?
—China’s “resettlement” policies on Tibetan nomads
time: 19:00 Saturday, December 10th.
venue: No.9 Alley 105 Shida Rd, Daan Dist, Taipei.
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home – so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. […]
Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt
我們會播放環境研究者Michael Buckley的紀錄短片《牧民變遊民》（From Nomad to Nobody）並對圖博／西藏的環境以及生活方式的現況
Due to the special environment on the plateau, Tibetans have evolved some distictive ways of life after thousands of years– and being a nomad is one of them. However, after the Chinese’s colonialzation in Tibet for almost 60 years, Tibetans have faced oppression in the name of modernization and development but assimilation and colonialization in reality; and their lifestyle is facing severe threats.
On the Human Rights Day this year, we’d love to invite you to know more about the life and struggle of Tibetan nomads, and really see the oppression they’ve been facing for decades. The theme of Human Rights Day this year is “stand up for someone’s rights,” and we do hope we can stand up for Tibet together.
We’re going to screen the short documentary FROM NOMADS TO NOBODY by environmental researcher Michael Buckley, and have a brief introduction on the current situation of Tibetan environment & lifestyle, and the crisis they’re confronting. Meanwhile, we’ll also introduce some human rights defenders who struggle for Tibetans, especially nomads’, rights. We’re looking forward to meet you here!
