“The Confucius Institute is an appealing brand for expanding our culture abroad. It has made an important contribution toward improving our soft power. The ‘Confucius’ brand has a natural attractiveness. Using the excuse of teaching Chinese language, everything looks reasonable and logical.” – Li Changchun, former member of Politburo Standing Committee, Communist Party of China

“Every mainland teacher we send, all of them will say Taiwan belongs to China. We should have one China. No hesitation.” – Xu Lin, Hanban (Confucius Institute) Director General, 12/22/2014 BBC TV interview

“Presenting a China that is happily free of all these forbidden topics is to present a distorted China, and to present the distorted China as the real China does indeed have costs. Students and the general public who don’t know any better are seriously misled.” – Perry Link, China scholar, University of California, Riverside [From Politico: How China Infiltrated U.S. Classrooms, Jan.16, 2018]
