Tell UMass: Don’t Renew the Confucius Institute Contract

We just had a look at the Confucius Institute contract signed between UMass Boston and the Chinese Government and it is shocking.

UMass Boston didn’t just agree to cede academic control to CI “Headquarters” in Beijing, it agreed to follow “the laws and regulations” of China!

This is outrageous. And unacceptable. The only good news here is that the contract expires this year on April 8, 2018, so we have an incredible opportunity to shut down the CI at UMass Boston.

Last week, FBI director Christopher Wray testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that the FBI is seriously concerned about Chinese intelligence operatives being active on U.S. campuses. He even admitted that the FBI has some active investigations related to CIs.

We must fight to protect our schools from China’s propaganda, censorship, and disinformation. We must fight to ensure that Tibet, Taiwan, the Tiananmen Square Massacre, and other critical issues considered “sensitive” by Beijing are not silenced and hidden away from students and youth in the free world.

This is our chance to get China’s Trojan Horse out of our schools—take action now and tell UMass President Marty Meehan not to allow the renewal of the Confucius contract at UMass Boston on April 8th!

Send a letter to UMass President Marty Meehan now!

It’s been over two months since our coalition – Tibetans, Taiwanese, Chinese democracy activists and human rights advocates – first wrote to UMass Boston’s Chancellor Barry Mills about the CI and we have yet to receive a response.

But now we have seen the contract UMass Boston signed with the Chinese government and we are deeply disturbed by the terms that the university agreed with in order to host the CI.

Join us to say NO to Chinese Government teaching in our schools!
