We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Liu Xiaobo, Nobel Peace Prize winner and unwavering champion of human rights and freedom for all oppressed people, passed away yesterday morning in China.
In addition to keeping his illness a secret and denying him proper treatment, the Chinese authorities did not grant him his dying wish, to leave the country with his wife, Liu Xia, and her brother. We will work to ensure Liu Xia is allowed to leave, and we recommit to realizing his dream: justice and freedom for all in China, Tibet, and everyone in this world. Thank you, Liu Xiaobo, for standing up for Tibetans, when many refused or were too scared to do so. We will never forget you.
At SFT we believe the absolute best way we can pay tribute to Liu Xiaobo and Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, who dedicated their lives to freedom and human rights for all oppressed, is to be relentless in our pursuit of justice – to never give up his fight and never, ever give in to despair.
The Chinese authorities put Liu Xiaobo in prison, because they fear him, because they fear his courage, just the way they did with Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.
Now it is up to us to ensure that their voices are never silenced. And not only must we continue their work, but we must amplify it. So how do we do this? We do it through relentless action!
