Development Intern

This internship will provide opportunities to be involved in member relations and fundraising strategy. The Development & Membership intern will be responsible for communicating (in person and via email and phone) with SFT’s diverse support base across the U.S. and internationally, and will assist in designing and implementing creative and savvy membership campaigns. This includes editing and production of fundraising appeals, acknowledgement letters, and other materials; internet research; mailing projects, and membership database upkeep.



Contribute to the strategic direction, coordination and implementation of SFT’s overall fundraising program
Help with editing online and direct mail appeals and management of the direct mail process
Assist with management of merchandise program (designs, sales, and inventory)
Help create fundraising and outreach materials
Update SFT’s donor database
Communication with our supports (both in person and on the phone)


Experience in fundraising and event planning, excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working under pressure, organized and detail oriented, ability to work well in a team, but is also a self-starter who works well independently, and strong interpersonal skills with a positive and energetic personality


Applicants are expected to commit at least 15 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks (15 preferred). Full-time internships and longer commitments are preferred.


This internship will provide you the opportunity for skill development and work experience in the nonprofit sector; references from senior staff upon successful completion of the internship; unique learning experience in one of the most effective grassroots organizations in the field of political activism. This internship is unpaid.
